Keraton Kanoman

Hi, guys. I hope you're doing well. On New Year, I visited Keraton Kanoman (Kanoman Palace). Keraton Kanoman is one of the legacy of Islamic Kingdom in Java Island. Keraton Kanoman was founded by Sultan Anom 1 in the 17th century during Sultanate of Cirebon. At the time, Sunan Gunung Jati (Syarif Hidayatullah) was very active in spreading the teachings of Islam in northern coast of Java, including West Java, Jakarta and Banten. People who spread the teachings of Islam in Nusantara were called as Wali Songo. When the religion of Islam came to Java Island, they still adhered to Hinduism and Buddhism and held their customs strongly. Therefore, Wali Songo spread the teachings of Islam without destroying the original culture peacefully so that they could adapt new culture. Then, there was acculturation. The religion of Islam was also grown into remote areas. 

 

Keraton Kanoman is located in Jalan Winaon Kampung Kanomon, Cirebon City, West Java, Indonesia. Keraton Kanoman is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. As I see it, Keraton Kanoman has an architecture which is so unique with a mixed of Chinese, Arabic, Javanese and European architecture. Currently, Keraton Kanoman is used as a residence of the family palace, cultural heritage, entertainment and official events. Thank you for your visiting!
